How we source, check and rank events
What is behind the dates, prices and rankings on this site, and what we can't tell you. If you plan travel around an event, confirm on the organizer's page first.
Where the information comes from
Dates, venues, prices and CPE details come from the organizer: its official event page, or a press release or announcement that it published. Each event page links to the source we used and to the organizer's own site.
We record the same fields for every event where the organizer publishes them: dates, venue and city, format (in person, online or hybrid), price from, CPE hours, who the event is for, topics, and deadlines such as early-bird pricing.
How often it is checked
The calendar is updated every day. Each event page shows the date it was last checked against its organizer's page. When an organizer cancels or postpones an event, the page keeps its URL and says so, and the event is left out of ranked lists and upcoming counts.
How the Top 10 lists are ranked
The ranked lists score each event out of 100. There are no attendance figures or attendee ratings in our data, so the score uses only what we record for every event:
- Track record, 35 points. How many editions of the event we have on record, up to 5.
- Published details, 30 points. Whether the organizer has published the venue, city, price, CPE hours and who the event is for. Online events don't need a venue or city.
- CPE credit, 20 points. Full points at 24 hours or more, in proportion below that, and partial points when an event offers credit without stating the hours.
- Focus, 15 points. On lists about one topic only: how central the topic is to the event.
Ties go to the earlier event, then to the name. A list is published only when at least 5 events qualify. The score uses only the information above; nothing else, including Kintsugi's own promotions, affects the order.
What we can't tell you
- The score favors events with long records and complete listings. An excellent event with a short record or few published details can rank lower than it deserves.
- Prices and CPE hours appear only where the organizer has published them. Today 125 of 385 upcoming conferences list a price, so a missing price is a gap in the organizer's listing, not a free event.
- We don't rate sessions, speakers or value for money, and we don't guarantee that CPE credit is accepted by your state board. Check the sponsor and field of study with the organizer and your board.
